Schiphol Tunnel Safety

TEC partner Haskoning has been requested to develop functional specifications for the renovation of the landside Buitenveldert tunnel and the airside Kaagbaan tunnel located on Schiphol Airport.
Tunnel over a road

Project description

The renovation was necessary because of the new Dutch tunnel legislation that will become mandatory in 2019. Stakeholder Management, safety studies and technical analyses were part of this assignment. An integral approach regarding installations, systems, procedures and business processes are essential for achieving a successful system integration and therefore safe tunnels. This is even more important since Airport Tunnels are different from common public road tunnels and required a tailor-made approach. All services were carried out in close collaboration with the Owner Schiphol Nederland B.V. and managing budget, planning and quality.

The result of the project was a complete set of functional specifications, appropriate to launch the renovation tenders. The functional specifications consisted of requirements originating legislation, requirements from stakeholders and requirements from asset management. Performing the renovation using these specifications will guarantee that the tunnels will meet the new legislation regarding tunnel safety.
